Metrolink chiefs review plans to replace 'unreliable' older trams

Transport chiefs are reviewing plans to replace the 32 older blue-and-grey trams still running on the Greater Manchester Metrolink network after they broke down four times in the last fortnight.

Coun Roger Jones, a vice-chairman of the TfGM Committee, said: “The biggest culprit is the older trams. They’re breaking down too often. Most are over 20 years old. We’ve got a commitment to replace 12 of them. It’s only when we get rid of the old ones that we’ll have a system that’s really efficient.”
